“Have you found happiness?”

Whenever I hear this question, I wonder why happiness is being treated like a lost set of car keys. Talking about “finding” happiness implies that happiness is something we should look for rather than something we must build from within.

Happiness, as it turns out, emerges when you build a certain set of skills – happiness skills. If you develop the right happiness skills, you will experience more happiness. And, if you practice these skills often enough, they’ll become automatic. Happiness, itself, will become a reflex. When happiness becomes a reflex, you no longer have to work at it. It just exists.

How does this happen? Well, it’s really quite simple. You see, the thing about the brain is that it’s got a lot to do. To save energy, it automates the things that it does a lot. For example, things like walking, talking, and writing are a lot easier now than when you started. These things have become automatic because you did them so many times, the brain made them easy. This exact same logic can be applied to happiness. In other words, by practicing happiness skills, you can train your brain to generate happiness automatically.

It sounds easy. But don’t be fooled. If it was really that easy, then you’d be happy already. It turns out that wanting to boost your happiness isn’t enough. To make happiness a reflex, there is a process you need to follow. More specially, you need to take these 5 steps:
